Changes in humidity affect all pianos, whether they are being played or left untouched in a corner. For example, during the winter, pianos tend to go flat with dry heat. In addition, slipping tuning pins can also cause pianos to go flat. Older pianos that have been exposed to many seasons often have loose tuning pins and as a result, have poor tuning stability.
Finally, like to pound out hearty tunes on your pianos? The louder and more often you play pianos, the faster they go out of tune. The force of a hammer repeatedly hitting a string can affect the equalization of tension along the string's length, and cause its pitch to be slightly altered.
