After years of use, your piano will need more than just a regular tuning, it will need a service called piano regulation. Piano regulation keeps the inner playing mechanism of your piano, or the “action” of the piano, in adjustment, so it works the way it was built to work. Just think – each piano key on your piano has more than 25 points of adjustment which need to work together to produce the sound you hear when you play just one note.
In order to compensate for wear - the compacting of cloth and felt and changes in wooden parts due to humidity - periodic adjustments or regulation should be made. Keeping the correct relationship between every part will prevent unnecessary wear and will make the piano’s “action” feel right. When a piano is in regulation, each key functions smoothly and evenly throughout the whole keyboard. No more sticking piano keys, uneven feel or notes that don’t do what you want them to do.
Your piano needs regulation and action work at least once every two to three years, depending on its condition and the extent of usage.
